Hyundai Dealer for 25 years

The Barry Maney Group had been the Ford & Kenworth Dealer in Mount Gambier for 11 years, when it added the Hyundai franchise to its stable in 1987. In those early days the Hyundai Dealership traded as Lake City Autos and was situated in a small car yard at 109 Commercial Street East, Mount Gambier. The service and parts back up was available from the main Dealership site at 199 Jubilee Highway West.

Hyundai was pretty much a one car franchise at that time, with the popular Excel being well accepted in the market place and pioneering the drive-away-no-more-to-pay concept.

As Hyundai ramped up their model range the Dealership changed its trading name to Barry Maney Hyundai and needing more yard space to display the bigger line up of product, we moved next to our Used Car yard at 111 Commercial Street East. The franchise continued to grow and Barry Maney Hyundai developed its own stand alone sales outlet at the corner of Crouch Street North and Percy Street in 2000, where it stands today.

Barry Maney Hyundai have built a team of highly qualified Hyundai service technicians and together with our factory trained parts professionals, the Dealership has been recognised with numerous Customer Service Awards over the years, including being rated the number one Hyundai Service & Parts Dealer for regional Australia in 2009.

Maintaining his commitment to his experienced team, in September 1993, Barry Maney introduced a formal succession plan and offered four of his Senior Executives, David Millard, Michael Donovan, Fred Hill and John Bradley, the opportunity to become Directors and partners in the Dealership. John Bradley later left the group to move to Adelaide in 1996. In April 2005, Barry Stafford and Jim Cornolo were also invited to become Directors and partners in the Dealership.

Today, the Barry Maney Group has a team of more than 80 staff at their four sites on Jubilee Highway West, Commercial Street East, Crouch Street North Mount Gambier and more recently in Warrnambool Victoria. Barry credits the Company’s success to an unwavering commitment to customer care and a belief that you always need to genuinely care and fully support your employees and also the community.
